On the trail of women writers from Gorizia on the International Women’s Day

On 8 March, the International Women’s Day, the Women Writers Route and the Forum of Slavic Cultures as its member took part in organising yet another walk on the trail of women writers.

This year’s guided tour was organised by the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica and Cultural Tourist Association Women Writers Route under the title Bold and Borderless, and was dedicated to formidable women who pursued their literary and other careers in Gorizia. The tour through Gorizia attracted many participants, who learned about the life and work of several authors who spent at least some of their life in Gorizia.

Women writers, journalists, teachers and translators each made a significant contribution to the cultural and intellectual landscape of the city. One of the most prominent ones was Ljubka Šorli, who spent most of her life in Gorizia and is featured also in the Women Writers Route, a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. Our guide Jasmina Jerant shared stories and insights into their lives, their personal and public trials and tribulations as well as fascinating and amusing anecdotes. Those who missed the opportunity to join the guided tour can take a stroll with a booklet that was published for the occasion under the baton of Dr. Katja Mihurko Poniž, President of the Scientific Council of the Women Writers Route.
