On the Women Writers’ Route at the Academy of the European Institute of Cultural Routes
The Forum of Slavic Cultures took part at its second “academy” of the European Institute for Cultural Routes at the Council of Europe. The Forum presented the Women Writers’ Route project that aims to shed light on the exceptional lives and literary stories of women writers who left their mark in the struggle for human rights and the rights of women in the early 20th century.
The Director of the European Institute for Cultural Routes Stefano Dominioni pointed out that with their journey through space and time the cultural routes of the Council of Europe demonstrate how heritage and cultures of different and distant parts of Europe can contribute to our shared cultural heritage. At the same time, the cultural routes exercise the fundamental principles of the Council of Europe: human rights, democracy, cultural diversity and identity.
Dedicated to education, presentations and liaising between cultural routes of the Council of Europe the training academy took place in Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland. More than 60 participants from more than 15 European countries spoke about good practices and shared their experience. The focus of this year’s training academy was on programmes for youth involvement and sustainable fundraising for cultural routes. It also showcased the projects that are to apply for certification as Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. One of them is the Women Writers’ Route, with the Forum of Slavic Cultures as its initiator and seven countries already joining the project. After the conference of the Scientific Council of the cultural route, which took place this April in Ljubljana, the Programme Council of the emerging project is to meet in Belgrade at the end of September.
